Good dinosaur nursery decor has a strange brief. It has to delight a parent at 3 a.m., calm a baby who can't focus past arm's length yet, and survive the day that baby becomes a toddler who wants real dinosaurs. The trick is to put the theme on the walls, the floor and the feeding chair, and to keep the crib itself plain. This guide walks through each of those, with what we actually make for each spot and three rooms priced out.
This is the one rule that isn't about taste. Safe-sleep guidance from the American Academy of Pediatrics is a firm mattress and a fitted sheet, with no pillows, blankets, bumpers or soft toys in the crib for a baby's first year. So anything soft and dinosaur-shaped belongs somewhere else in the room: the rocking chair, the floor, a shelf.
That actually makes a nursery easier to design. The crib becomes a quiet block of white or wood, and the dinosaurs live on the walls around it. We don't make crib sheets or crib bedding, and we won't pretend a duvet cover belongs in a crib. Our dinosaur duvet covers start at Twin, which is the bed they'll move into later.
Wall art carries most of a nursery's theme, and it's the cheapest place to start. You have two routes.
Printables are digital downloads. You pay once, get a download link by email right away, and print at home or at a photo lab. Each one comes as 8″×10″ and 11″×14″ files at 300 DPI, so it fits a standard store-bought frame. Two of our dinosaur printables were drawn for a nursery:
Posters are printed on thick matte paper and shipped to you. Two of our dinosaur posters suit a nursery:
| Printable | Poster | |
|---|---|---|
| Price | $5.99 per design | $15.99–$34.99 |
| Arrives | Instantly, by email | Printed to order, 2–5 + 3–4 business days |
| Sizes | 8″×10″ and 11″×14″ | Up to 18″×24″ (Ferns) or 24″×32″ (ABC) |
| You supply | Printing and a frame | A frame |
| Best for | Gallery walls, tight budgets, a last-minute baby shower gift | One big piece over the crib wall or dresser |
Two practical notes. Hang frames on the wall away from the crib, not above it, so nothing can fall in or be pulled down by a standing baby. And a matched pair reads better than a crowd: the two pastel printables side by side in white frames do more than six mismatched prints. For every size and frame fit across the range, our dinosaur wall art guide has the full table.
The floor is where a baby spends their awake hours, so a rug earns its place. The Dino Jungle area rug is polyester chenille with hemmed edges, a one-sided print and a grey underside. It comes in 24″×36″ ($59.99) or 36″×60″ ($99.99).
Be honest with yourself about the print: Dino Jungle is a dense, bold green jungle with roaming dinosaurs. It suits a nursery painted white or pale green, and it will still look right when the room turns into a toddler room. It does not suit a blush-and-cream pastel scheme; skip it there and let the walls do the work. Whatever rug you choose, put a non-slip pad under it.
Every nursery has a chair where the night feeds happen. That's the right home for the soft things.
The Dino Nursery baby fleece blanket ($39.99) is the one piece we made specifically for babies. It's 30″×40″, soft polyester fleece, with hand-drawn baby dinosaurs (T-rex, Triceratops, Stegosaurus, Brontosaurus and a Pterodactyl), hatching eggs, little volcanoes, ferns and stars in black line art on warm white. That size is right for the stroller, the car seat (over the buckled harness, never under it), tummy time on the floor, or your lap during a feed. It lives with you, not in the crib. It's printed and shipped from our production partner's facility in Latvia, which matters for gift timing (see below).
For the chair itself, a shaped dinosaur pillow adds the theme without adding clutter. The Baby Dino and Cute Hatched Dino pillows suit a nursery best. They're cut to the shape of the dinosaur, printed on one side with a white back, sealed with no zipper, and come in 10″, 16″ or 22″ ($29.99–$34.54). The 10″ is the right size for a nursing chair; the 22″ is a floor cushion for a toddler. Like the blanket, these are for the chair and the shelf. The rest of the range is in our dinosaur pillows collection.
If you want a bigger throw for the grown-up who sits in that chair, the rest of our dinosaur blankets are 50″×60″ and up.
Prices are from the listings today. Printables need printing and frames; posters need frames.
1. Pastel and gender-neutral (about $82). Pastel Baby Dinos and ABC Dinos printables, framed as a pair ($11.98), the Dino Nursery fleece blanket ($39.99), and a 10″ Baby Dino pillow on the chair ($29.99). Sage, blush and cream; works with any crib finish.
2. Calm green (about $91). Triceratops in the Ferns at 16″×20″ ($20.99) and the Dinosaur ABC poster at 18″×24″ ($29.99) on facing walls, plus the fleece blanket ($39.99). Paint or linen in a pale sage pulls it together.
3. Bold jungle, built to grow (about $162). The Dino Jungle rug at 36″×60″ ($99.99), the Dinosaur ABC poster at 18″×24″ ($29.99), and a 16″ Triceratops pillow ($31.99). This is the one that turns into a dinosaur bedroom with no redecorating. When they move to a big-kid bed, our dinosaur room decor guide picks up where this one stops.
So you're not hunting: we don't make crib sheets, crib bumpers (which you shouldn't use anyway), mobiles, lamps or night lights, curtains, wall decals or wallpaper. For those, choose a plain color pulled from your wall art. One dinosaur print per surface looks deliberate; dinosaurs on every surface looks like a party store.
Everything except the printables is made when you order it. These are the estimates on each listing (US standard shipping, business days):
| Piece | Production | Shipping | For a Dec 23 delivery, order by |
|---|---|---|---|
| Printables | Instant | Any time | |
| Dinosaur ABC poster, Dino Jungle rug | 2–5 | 3–4 | Thu, Dec 10 |
| Triceratops in the Ferns poster | 2–5 (larger sizes up to 7) | 3–4 | Tue, Dec 8 |
| Dino Nursery fleece blanket | 2–3 | 4–6 | Thu, Dec 10 (earlier is safer; it ships from Latvia) |
| Shaped pillows | 2–5 | 4–13 | Wed, Nov 25 |
For a baby shower, work back from the shower date the same way. Allow about two weeks for the blanket, the posters and the rug, and closer to four for the pillows. If the shower is this weekend, a printable is the one thing that arrives in time. Print it, frame it, done.
Is a dinosaur nursery a good gender-neutral theme? Yes, if you pick the palette rather than the dinosaurs. Pastel Baby Dinos (sage, blush, powder blue) and Triceratops in the Ferns (greens) both read as neutral. The Dino Jungle rug leans bold rather than "boy" or "girl."
Can I put the dinosaur blanket or pillow in the crib? Not for the first year. Use the fleece blanket in the stroller, on the floor or on your lap, and keep pillows on the chair or a shelf.
Do you sell dinosaur crib bedding? No. Our duvet covers start at Twin size, for the next bed.
What frame size do the printables need? Standard 8″×10″ or 11″×14″. Both sizes are in the download.
Will the nursery still work when they're a toddler? The Dinosaur ABC poster and the Dino Jungle rug are the two pieces that keep going longest. The pastel printables are the ones you'll eventually swap.
Start with the walls. The two nursery printables are $5.99 each and arrive in your inbox the minute you order: see our dinosaur printables.
