A dinosaur room usually starts with a request. Your kid wants dinosaurs everywhere, and you want a room that still looks put together in three years. Good dinosaur room decor manages both, and the trick is the order you buy in. Start with the biggest surface in the room, which is the bed. Let it set the colors, then add the floor, the walls and the small soft things.
Everything below is something we make, and every price, size and ship time comes from the listing itself. Here's the short version:
| Piece | What it does for the room | From |
|---|---|---|
| A dinosaur duvet cover | Sets the palette. It's the biggest patch of color in the room | $94.99 (Twin) |
| A dinosaur rug | Anchors the floor beside the bed | $59.99 (24″×36″) |
| Wall art | Gives the theme height, and the room a focal point | $15.99 (8″×10″ poster) |
| A shaped dinosaur pillow | The piece a kid actually picks up and hugs | $29.99 (10″) |
| A throw blanket | Adds a second pattern and keeps the reading corner warm | $44.99 (50″×60″) |
The duvet cover is the decision that makes the others easy. It covers more of the room than anything else, so its colors become the room's colors. We make eight dinosaur duvet covers, and they fall into a few clear looks (more on those below).
What you need to know before you order:
That white reverse is handy. Fold the top of the duvet back and you get a clean white band across the bed, which calms down a busy print.
Most dinosaur rooms go wrong by mixing every dinosaur product in the house. Choose one look and buy inside it.
Bright and friendly (ages 3–8). The Dino Dreams duvet cover has a teal T-rex, an orange triceratops, a blue stegosaurus and friends under a navy night sky full of stars, moons and planets. It's cheerful at bedtime, and the dark background is easy to live with every day. The Colorful Dinosaurs cover is the lighter version: bold hand-inked dinosaurs on warm cream, in a retro natural-history style that suits boys and girls equally. Either one pairs with the Dino Jungle rug and a shaped pillow or two.
Soft and pastel. The Pastel Dinos cover puts smiling baby dinosaurs in mint, lavender, peach and sky blue on a blush pink background, with hatching eggs, hearts and clouds. It's the one for a girl's room, a shared room, or a toddler moving to a big-kid bed. Keep everything else quiet around it: white walls and one or two pastel accents.
Calm and neutral. The Sage Triceratops cover is a fine, dark green engraving-style triceratops repeated on soft sage. From across the room it reads as a texture. Up close it's a tiny herd. This is the cover for parents who want the theme without the noise, and it works with natural wood and linen. It's also the one least likely to be outgrown.
Museum after hours (tweens, teens, grown-ups). The Museum Dinosaurs cover has realistic dinosaurs in earthy tones, with ammonite fossils, ginkgo leaves and ferns on deep charcoal. It's the same print as our Museum Dinosaurs sherpa blanket and canvas, so you can match the whole room from one pattern. It looks right on a Queen bed in a teen room or a guest room.
And one wild card: the Dino Nuggies cover, with crispy dinosaur-shaped chicken nuggets and ketchup on sky blue. If you know a kid who'd rather eat a dinosaur than read about one, this is their bed.
A rug beside the bed is where feet land in the morning and where the toy dinosaurs end up anyway. The Dino Jungle area rug is our densest pattern: leafy prehistoric greenery with dinosaurs roaming through it. It's polyester chenille with hemmed edges and a grey underside, and it comes in two sizes:
Because it's so busy, the rug goes best with the plainer covers (Sage Triceratops or Colorful Dinosaurs) or with a bright cover in a room with plain walls. Put two busy patterns flat on the floor and the bed, and the room starts to feel smaller.
Walls are where the theme gets height. We wrote a whole guide on this, sorted by style and room, with a frame-size table: dinosaur wall art, 15 prints sorted by style and room. The short version for a bedroom:
The posters ship unframed. If you'd rather hang something today, the Museum Dinosaurs canvas comes hand-stretched over solid wood bars, 1.25″ deep, with mounting brackets included. It's $44.99 at 12″×12″ or $59.99 at 16″×16″, and it matches the Museum Dinosaurs bedding. All 15 posters are in our dinosaur posters collection.
These are the cheapest way to add the theme, and the easiest things to change later.
Shaped pillows. Our dinosaur-shaped pillows are cut to the outline of the animal, like the Triceratops pillow or the Cute Hatched Dino peeking out of its egg. They're soft polyester, printed on one side with a white back, 3″–5″ thick, and sealed with no zipper. Sizes are 10″ ($29.99), 16″ ($31.99) and 22″ (up to $34.54). The 22″ is big enough to lean on for bedtime reading. There are six shapes plus square cushions in the dinosaur throw pillow collection.
Throw blankets. A throw folded across the foot of the bed adds a second pattern without fighting the duvet. The printed throws, like Dino Jungle, are a soft silky polyester, printed on one side, machine-washable and hypoallergenic, at $44.99 (50″×60″) or $59.99 (60″×80″). For a cold room, the Museum Dinosaurs sherpa blanket has a smooth printed top and a plush tan sherpa back, from $49.99 at 37″×57″. See all twelve in our dinosaur blankets.
All prices are from the listings today, before shipping and tax.
The bright starter room, about $217. Dino Dreams duvet cover, Twin ($94.99). Dino Jungle rug, 24″×36″ ($59.99). Triceratops shaped pillow, 16″ ($31.99). Dinosaur Chart poster, 18″×24″ ($29.99).
The calm room, about $191. Sage Triceratops duvet cover, Twin ($94.99). Serene Stegosaurus throw, 50″×60″ ($44.99). Ankylosaurus shaped pillow, 16″ ($31.99). Triceratops in the Ferns poster, 11″×14″ ($18.99).
The museum room, about $244. Museum Dinosaurs duvet cover, Queen ($109.99). Museum Dinosaurs sherpa blanket, 50″×60″ ($54.99). Museum Dinosaurs canvas, 16″×16″ ($59.99). Velociraptor plate poster, 11″×14″ ($18.99). One print across the bed, the throw and the wall, with the poster to break it up.
The under-$100 refresh, about $93. Keep the bedding you have. Add a Cute Hatched Dino pillow, 16″ ($31.99), a Dino Jungle throw, 50″×60″ ($44.99), and a Triceratops in the Ferns poster, 8″×10″ ($15.99). It's enough to make the room feel like a dinosaur room without starting over.
So you're not hunting: we don't make sheets, pillowcases or duvet inserts, curtains, lamps or night lights, or wall decals and murals. For those, a plain color pulled from your duvet cover will look more deliberate than a second dinosaur print. If the theme carries on into the bathroom, we wrote a separate guide on dinosaur bathroom decor that survives the steam.
Everything here is printed when you order it. These are the estimates on each listing (US standard shipping, business days), worked back to a delivery on Wednesday, December 23:
| Piece | Production | Shipping | Order by |
|---|---|---|---|
| Dino Jungle rug, Museum Dinosaurs canvas, Museum Dinosaurs sherpa | 2–5 | 3–4 | Thu, Dec 10 |
| Dinosaur Chart poster | 2–5 | 3–4 | Thu, Dec 10 |
| Duvet covers | 2–5 | 4–6 | Tue, Dec 8 |
| Triceratops in the Ferns, Velociraptor plate posters | 2–5 (large sizes up to 7) | 3–4 | Tue, Dec 8 |
| Printed throw blankets (Dino Jungle) | 3–4 | 4–8 | Mon, Dec 7 |
| Shaped pillows | 2–5 | 4–13 | Wed, Nov 25 |
The shaped pillows have the longest shipping window by far, so order those first. If you're buying a whole room at once, the slowest item sets the date. These are estimates, not guarantees, and December carriers run late, so a week of slack is the kinder plan.
What's the best dinosaur bedding for a toddler moving to a big-kid bed? A Twin cover in Dino Dreams or Pastel Dinos. Both are bright without being scary, and both use baby or friendly cartoon dinosaurs.
Does the duvet cover come with pillowcases? No. It's the cover only. The insert and pillowcases aren't included.
Will a dinosaur room still work when they're ten? Choose Sage Triceratops or Museum Dinosaurs for the bed and the room will age well. Swap the pillows and posters as they grow, since those are the cheap parts.
Is the rug soft enough to sit on? It's polyester chenille with hemmed edges. The 36″×60″ is the size for sitting and playing on; the 24″×36″ is more of a bedside landing spot.
How do I decorate a dinosaur room for a boy and a girl sharing? Use the Colorful Dinosaurs cover on both beds. It's on warm cream with a mix of colors, so neither side reads as "boys" or "girls". Then let each kid pick their own shaped pillow.
Can I wash all of it? The duvet covers and printed throws are machine-washable (cold for the duvet). The shaped pillows are sealed with no zipper, so there's no cover to take off and wash separately.
Start with the bed. All eight designs, in every size, are in our dinosaur bedding collection.
