Most people shopping for dinosaur wall art have one wall in mind already. It might be the space over a crib, a blank stretch above a seven-year-old's bed, a classroom reading corner, or a home office that needs something more interesting than a stock photo. The dinosaur is easy. The hard part is choosing a style that suits the room, a size that suits the wall, and a frame the print will actually fit.
So this guide sorts all 15 posters we make by style first and by room second. Every size, price and ship time below comes from the listing itself. Here's the short version:
| If the room is… | Start with | Sizes | From |
|---|---|---|---|
| A nursery or toddler room | Dinosaur ABC alphabet poster | 12″×16″ to 24″×32″ | $24.99 |
| A kid's bedroom (ages 5–10) | Dinosaur Chart with Names | 12″×16″ to 24″×32″ | $24.99 |
| A teen room, office or living room | T-Rex Portrait or the Velociraptor plate | 8″×10″ to 18″×24″ | $15.99 |
| A hallway gallery wall | Three vintage science plates | 5″×7″ to 24″×36″ | $17.49 |
| You want it ready to hang | Fossil Hunter framed poster | One size, framed | $49.99 |
| Party's on Saturday, budget is tight | A printable you print yourself | 8″×10″, 11″×14″ | $5.99 |
Five looks cover the whole range. Pick the look first and the rest of the decisions get easier.
These are the prints that look like they came out of an old natural history library, because some of them did. The Stegosaurus & Triceratops poster and the Diplodocus poster are digitally restored from The Dinosaurs of North America (1896) by Othniel Charles Marsh, a U.S. Geological Survey report that was one of the first big scientific surveys of American dinosaur fossils.
The Trilobite and Pteranodon posters are restored from the work of Heinrich Harder (1858–1935), a German artist whose prehistoric paintings were printed on collectible cards sold with chocolate. (A small honesty note: neither a trilobite nor a pteranodon is a dinosaur. A trilobite is a sea creature that died out before the first dinosaurs appeared, and a pteranodon is a flying reptile. They still hang very happily next to one.)
The newer Velociraptor Natural History Plate is drawn in the same old scientific-illustration style, but with feathers, the way paleontologists now think Velociraptor mongoliensis looked.
All four of the restored plates go up to 24″×36″, and the Trilobite and Pteranodon go all the way down to 5″×7″ for a desk or shelf.
The T-Rex Portrait is a dramatic, close-up painting of a Tyrannosaurus with rich brushwork and dark lighting. It's the most grown-up print we make, and it's the one we'd hang in an office. Its calmer partner is Triceratops in the Ferns: a triceratops walking through layered green ferns. It suits a bedroom, and it works for a child who has outgrown cartoon dinosaurs but not dinosaurs. Both run from $15.99 at 8″×10″ to $21.99 at 18″×24″.
The Vintage T-Rex poster is done like an old screen print. A T. rex strides through a misty fern forest under a volcano sunset, in cream, burnt orange, deep teal and mustard with a halftone grain. A title band along the bottom reads "TYRANNOSAURUS REX · Late Cretaceous, 68–66 million years ago". It's $24.99 to $34.99, and it's the print that fits a living room with warm wood and orange tones.
Two posters do a job besides looking good. The Dinosaur ABC poster runs A to Z with one real dinosaur per letter, from Ankylosaurus and Brachiosaurus to Yutyrannus and Zuniceratops. Each one is drawn in our own illustrated style with its letter and name.
The Dinosaur Chart with Names is a field guide for the wall: 12 famous dinosaurs, each labeled with its name, the period it lived in, and whether it ate plants or meat. It's the one a dinosaur-mad kid will stand in front of and quiz you from.
Four brighter, flatter designs make up our original poster range: T-Rex Sunset, Volcano T-Rex, African Dinosaur Safari and Freedom Forever. They're giclée printed on matte paper, and several come in square sizes (10″×10″ up to 18″×18″), which is handy for a shelf or a grid of square frames. T-Rex Sunset has the biggest spread, from 8″×10″ to 24″×36″.
Nursery. Choose soft and readable over scary. The ABC poster is the obvious pick. It's decor over the changing table now, and it becomes a reading poster around age three. If you'd rather have no letters, Triceratops in the Ferns is all calm greens. We'd hang it on a wall away from the crib rather than over it.
Kid's bedroom. This is where the Dinosaur Chart earns its place. At 18″×24″ ($29.99) it's big enough to read from the bed. Pair it with something bolder, like T-Rex Sunset, if the room needs color.
Teen room or dorm. The Vintage T-Rex or the T-Rex Portrait. Neither one reads as a kid's poster.
Classroom or homeschool wall. The Chart and the ABC poster, at the 24″×32″ size ($34.99), so the back row can read them.
Office, study or living room. The museum plates. Hang three in matching frames, or one large Diplodocus at 24″×36″ ($31.04) over a desk or sofa.
Bathroom. Paper and steam don't mix, so we gave the bathroom its own guide: dinosaur bathroom decor that survives the steam.
Our posters ship as prints. Only the Fossil Hunter poster comes framed, so for everything else you'll want a frame, and the size you pick decides how easy that is.
| Poster size | Ratio | Frame situation |
|---|---|---|
| 8″×10″, 11″×14″, 16″×20″, 18″×24″, 24″×36″ | Standard US | Easy. Off-the-shelf frames everywhere |
| 12″×18″, 20″×30″ | 2:3 | Common in poster frames; check before you buy |
| 12″×16″, 24″×32″ | 3:4 | Less common. Plan on a custom or online frame |
| 10″×10″ to 18″×18″ | Square | Easy at 12″ and 16″; other squares vary |
| A2, A1 (Diplodocus, Trilobite, Pteranodon) | Metric | Buy an A-size frame; US frames won't fit |
Two rules of thumb make the size choice simple:
All the posters are printed on thick matte paper, 10.3 mil and about 189–192 g/m². Matte means no glare under a bedroom lamp.
The natural history wall, about $74. Three vintage plates at 12″×18″: Stegosaurus & Triceratops ($24.99), Diplodocus ($24.04) and Trilobite ($24.99). Matching black frames make it look like a museum corridor.
The painted trio, about $57. T-Rex Portrait, Triceratops in the Ferns and the Velociraptor plate, all at 11″×14″ ($18.99 each). Standard frames, and the sizes match exactly.
The big kid's wall, about $95. The Dinosaur Chart and the ABC poster at 18″×24″ ($29.99 each), with the Vintage T-Rex at 24″×32″ ($34.99) in the middle.
One piece, ready to hang: $49.99. The Fossil Hunter framed poster is a vintage dig-site badge with a T-rex skull, a pickaxe and brush, and "Fossil Hunter · Dig Crew" lettering. It comes in a ¾″ ayous wood frame with an acrylic front and hanging hardware. Nothing else to buy.
If you need wall art by the weekend, or you want something for a party wall, we also sell dinosaur printables. Seven wall-art designs are $5.99 each, including printable versions of the T-Rex Portrait, Triceratops in the Ferns and the Velociraptor plate. You get files at 8″×10″ and 11″×14″, as a PNG and a PDF, and you print them at home or at a photo lab. There's nothing to ship. Our dinosaur printables guide covers how to print them so they look right.
So you're not hunting: we don't make canvas prints, wall decals or murals right now, and frames are only included on Fossil Hunter. Our stickers are a few inches across, not wall-sized.
Every poster is printed when you order it. These are the estimates on each listing (US standard shipping, business days), worked back to a delivery on Wednesday, December 23:
| Posters | Production | Shipping | Order by |
|---|---|---|---|
| Vintage T-Rex, ABC, Dinosaur Chart, Fossil Hunter (framed) | 2–5 | 3–4 | Thu, Dec 10 |
| T-Rex Portrait, Triceratops in the Ferns, Velociraptor plate | 2–5 (large sizes up to 7) | 3–4 | Tue, Dec 8 |
| Stegosaurus & Triceratops, Diplodocus, Trilobite, Pteranodon | 2–5 | 3–9 | Thu, Dec 3 |
| T-Rex Sunset, Volcano T-Rex, African Dinosaur Safari, Freedom Forever | 3–7 | about 10 | Mon, Nov 30 |
| Printables | Instant download | None | Any time |
Ordering several posters at once? The slowest one sets the date. These are estimates, not guarantees, and December carriers run late, so a week earlier is the kinder plan.
Do the posters come framed? Only the Fossil Hunter poster. Everything else is the print alone. See the frame table above for which sizes fit a store-bought frame.
What's the best dinosaur wall art for a nursery? The Dinosaur ABC poster if you want something that grows with them, or Triceratops in the Ferns if you want calm colors and no text.
Which poster is the most realistic? The Velociraptor plate and the T-Rex Portrait. The Velociraptor is shown with feathers, which is how scientists now reconstruct it.
What's the biggest size you make? 24″×36″, in Stegosaurus & Triceratops, Diplodocus, Trilobite, Pteranodon and T-Rex Sunset. The A1 size (23.3″×33.1″) is close but metric, so it needs an A1 frame.
Is the paper glossy? No. Every poster is printed on thick matte paper, so there's no glare.
Are they good gifts? They're made to order, so allow the times above. For Christmas, the framed Fossil Hunter is the easiest to give, since nothing else needs buying.
All 15 designs, every size, are in our dinosaur posters and wall art collection.
