Dinosaur Purses: Crossbody, Canvas Saddle Bag or Mini Clutch, and When to Order for Christmas

A dinosaur purse has a harder job than a dinosaur t-shirt. It has to hold your phone, keys and wallet every day, go with more than one outfit, and still look like you picked it on purpose. The print is the fun part. The shape, the strap and the size decide whether you actually carry it.

We make 24 dinosaur purses in three styles. Here's what separates them, which one suits how you carry things, and when to order if it's a Christmas present. Every measurement, price and lead time below comes from the live product listings.

The faux leather crossbody: the everyday dinosaur purse

This is most of the range: 19 prints on the same bag. It's a crossbody in faux leather with a polyester lining, dark gray hardware and a zip-top closure, so nothing falls out when it tips over on a car seat. Inside there's a zip pocket and slip pockets.

It measures 11″ × 8″ × 1.5″. That's slim. It takes a phone, a wallet, keys, sunglasses and a lip balm comfortably. It won't take a water bottle, and it isn't a work tote.

The straps are what make it versatile. There are two, a wrist strap and a shoulder strap, and both come off. The shoulder strap adjusts to a drop of 14″ to 27″:

• Long (around 27″): worn across the body, sitting at the hip. Hands free for a museum day or chasing a kid round a playground.
• Short (around 14″): over one shoulder, tucked under the arm.
• Wrist strap only: carried as a clutch for an evening out.

Which print?

The prints split roughly into three moods:

• Bold and retro: Crazy 90's, 90's Dinos, Neon Dinos, Loud Dino's, Colorful Dino's and Abstract T-Rex. Bright and busy. These work best with plain clothes, so the bag is the loud thing.
• Soft and cute: Pastel Dinos, Cute Boho Dinos, Colorful Little Dino's, Pink and Green Brontosaurus, Purple Dino Forest and Flower Power. Lighter colors that read as playful rather than loud.
• Fossils and bones: Multi-Skeleton, Fossils, Ancient Relics, Stencil Dinosaurs and Día de Muertos. Quieter, and the easiest to carry with anything. If you want a dinosaur purse for work, start here.

Then there are the jokes: Dino Nuggies and T-Rex Vacation, for someone who'd rather get a laugh than a compliment.

The canvas saddle bag: structured and waterproof

Three prints come as a different bag entirely: Blue & Gold Dinos, Chalkboard Rex and Watercolor Plesiosaur.

These are saddle bags made from waterproof canvas, with an adjustable crossbody strap made with leather and several interior compartments. Where the faux leather bag is a slim zip-top, this one has the traditional saddle-bag shape.

Choose it if you want a bag that shrugs off rain, or if you prefer a more traditional purse shape. Its measurements are in the size chart on each product page, so check there if size matters.

Each one is handcrafted to order, which makes it the slowest of the three to arrive. More on that in the Christmas section below.

The mini clutch: phone, cards, keys

At 6.3″ × 4″ and about a third of an inch deep, it's a pouch, not a bag. It's faux leather with a saffiano texture, printed on both sides, with one compartment, a black lining and a metal zipper with a small dinosaur charm on the pull. Big enough for cards, cash and keys. Check your phone's dimensions before counting on it to fit.

At $29.99 it's the cheapest way in, and it slips inside a bigger bag or a coat pocket. It also makes a good stocking-sized present.

Is a dinosaur purse for adults or kids?

All three are adult-sized bags. The crossbody and the saddle bag are the size of an ordinary everyday purse, and the crossbody's shortest strap drop is 14″, which will hang low on a small child.

For a younger dinosaur fan, the mini clutch is the better size. Older kids and teens can carry the crossbody across the body without trouble. The Flower Power print is the one we pitch at kids, but it's the same 11″ × 8″ bag as the rest.

Ordering a dinosaur purse for Christmas

Every purse is made after you order, and the three styles have very different lead times. These dates work back from the slowest estimate on each listing to arrive by December 22, with a little room for Thanksgiving week:

• Mini clutch: 2–5 business days to make, 3–6 to ship. Order by December 7.
• Faux leather crossbody: 7–11 business days to make, 7–12 to ship. Up to about four and a half weeks. Order by November 16.
• Canvas saddle bag: 3–7 business days to make, 10–15 to ship, and the listing says it's currently running behind that. Order by November 13, and earlier if you can.

All three ship to US addresses only. You get a tracking code once your order moves from production to shipping.

Dinosaur purse FAQ

What fits in the crossbody? A phone, a wallet, keys, sunglasses and a few small things. It's 11″ × 8″ × 1.5″, so it won't take a water bottle or a tablet.

Are the dinosaur purses waterproof? The canvas saddle bags are listed as waterproof canvas. The crossbody and mini clutch are faux leather, and their listings don't say waterproof.

Can the crossbody be worn as a shoulder bag? Yes. The shoulder strap adjusts from a 14″ to a 27″ drop, so it works across the body or over one shoulder. There's also a wrist strap, and both come off.

Do you ship outside the US? No. The listings say US only.

Why does it take a few weeks to arrive? Each bag is made to order rather than pulled from a warehouse. That's why ordering early for Christmas matters, especially for the crossbody and the canvas saddle bag.
